Awareness Day : Longford Ploughing Championships

Image (1)A very sincere thank you to our dedicated Volunteers Jacqui and Tom who, as described below, braved the elements to attend our Awareness Day on April 12th at the Longford Ploughing Championships, held at Legan, Co.Longford. When they arrived at the venue “the only way to get the car to the tent was to be towed by tractor, which we did, but ended up in a sea of mud. We were able to make a straw path between the car and the tent where we were setting up the table, so after a while we were able to get a couple of dogs into the tent with the table and equipment”. Great credit is also due to everyone who, despite the weather conditions, supported and showed great interest in our Charity.

Our dogs and their owners gave a warm welcome, with plenty of ‘wagging tails’, to all who visited our Stand and this was reflected by the interest shown in the work of Irish Therapy Dogs.  A demonstration was given where Volunteers simulated visits to Care Centres and showed the therapeutic effect that Therapy Dogs have on residents. We hope that, in the future, we will welcome back some of the visitors to our Stand as Volunteer Visiting Teams.
