Care Centres
A dog is therapeutic and an Irish Therapy Dogs’ Volunteer Visiting team can make a tremendous difference to the wellbeing of every resident in your care.
It is the policy of Irish Therapy Dogs to concentrate on carrying out the therapy aspect of our programme during visits to Care Centres. Young and old, fit and frail, alert and impaired all benefit from an Irish Therapy Dog visit.
To make an application for a Volunteer Visiting Team (Owner and his/her dog), simply download a Care Centre Application Form. An Annual Subscription of €200 is payable to Irish Therapy Dogs on placement of a Volunteer Visiting Team.
Volunteer Visiting Teams are:
- Rigorously assessed and approved for suitability to carry out their visits in a positive and discreet manner.
- Garda vetted.
- Nominated by two non-related referees.
- Dogs are vaccinated and preventatively treated for parasites.
- Insured by Hiscox Insurance Company against third party risks in the course of their visits.

The co-operation of Management and Staff with the Volunteer Visiting Team in the provision of the Irish Therapy Dogs’ programme is required. Management should ensure that all staff are made aware of Irish Therapy Dogs’ schedule of visits and the names of both the volunteer and the therapy dog.
Recruitment of a suitable Volunteer Visiting Team in your area may take some time. We therefore ask for your patience.
